Last updated May 2017:

We LOVE what we are doing here, but there always comes a time .... to RETIRE. We - are Inge and Jurgen. We live in paradise, in Campbell River on Vancouver Island, West Coast of British Columbia;  you see it here (we call it Campbell Riviera, click to enlarge):

Campbell River and Quadra Island
Inge & Jurgen

Inge was a talented picture framer (sold that business in 2014) and is an excellent knitter, passionate about quality in all she's doing. She calls Jurgen, her husband of over 30 years, her "stock boy". Hmm... he is the talker, the writer, the computer and marketing guy. Both (of German heritage) already hit the 70 pretty hard but still looking good... at least trying:

It's time to enjoy more of our time that's left, especially the growing number of grandchildren.
That's why we offer our dream store ......

  1. We are not moving away and offer our expertise in a very flexible transitional period. Because, as already said, we love what we are doing and we are/were good at it; and we love where we are living.
  2. You have to like what you are seeing before we talk seriously, that means you have to check out the store, location, products here in Campbell River, before we talk any numbers in detail;
  3. We won't ask unrealistic amounts - and want to make it real simple with hard to measure things, such as Good Will.

Now, let's go into more detail:

the Needle & Arts Centre

Here are some relevant links: please read and learn more about the business!
Company Profile:
The Needle & Arts Centre’s business is based on customer service through sometimes intense consultation prior to product purchase, plus free consulting during projects; furthermore we offer 1 on 1 teaching for knitting and crochet and a range of in-store classes and workshops with leading edge designers.

The Needle & Arts Centre, started in 1999, has continuously adjusted product lines to the customer
shop and storage on more than 2,000 sqft
needs and market trends and also offers clearance sales and incentives in economical challenging times. Through permanent diversification, the Needle & Arts Centre has become a unique arts and craft store in Western Canada. The quality yarn selection and the quality of service are the main reasons why many customers consider the Needle & Arts Centre as one of the best yarn stores in North America.
Our geographical area goes far beyond Campbell River. We attract customers from all over the Island and get a lot of world wide tourists in summer time. Based on an elaborate web site and blogs we also do mail orders, mainly to Canada and the US, and over time built up a large clientele.

For more than five years now we organise and sponsor a public “Knit in the Park” for knitters and crocheters, who as a group produce knitware for charity groups in town.

Reasons why we are successful: We attract customers locally and on-line with a large selection and stock of quality yarns, combined with quality service and consulting; by offering classes and knit-alongs; by an elaborate web site and profound newsletters. Also, a resurgence of do-it-yourself, especially of knitting projects, attracts customers of all ages (and both genders) who appreciate the high value and quality of hand-made products. Key is that we are extremely flexible to react to changing trends and products including timely clearance sales, and that we diversify whenever an opportunity arises (examples are the import of knitting accessories from India, started four years ago, and the increased offer of hand-made garments in our store, which started in 2011).

Lastly, the owners

Owners' Profile:
Inge & Jurgen Kettler (photo above) immigrated with their three sons from Germany in 1994. Inge took over The Framing Post in June 1996 as professional picture framer and started the Needle & Arts Centre in Fall 1999. Jurgen joined her in 2002 after retiring from high-tech consulting to expand their local businesses. In 2008 they started the Hidden Harbour B&B and Vacation Rental as their “retirement project”, although they feel they will never fully and totally retire.

Both bring in a lot of creativity and their European heritage to enhance their businesses in special ways. They both are members of the Campbell River Daybreak Rotary Club, they played a leading role in local beautification efforts, especially in the development of the Pier Street precinct including the Pier Street Farmers Market. They generously donate to many local charitable organisations. Their business was represented on the board of the Chamber of Commerce for many years.

Inge & Jurgen are true ambassadors of Campbell River. They pass on their love for this place to visiting customers and over time have built up many friendships. They enjoy the personal contact with their customers and strive to give their best consulting to each of them. Excellent customer service is the common thread for all their business ventures.
